Find the clash in the model, not during the shutdown.

The drawings are from 1998 and three retrofits ago. The new skid arrives, and the pipe run it was designed around moved 400 mm in 2011. The shutdown extends by four days and everyone blames the drawings.

Market benchmark

We reviewed the top 20 platforms and wrote down what we took from each

Each site was opened cold on a mid-range Android over a throttled connection and on desktop. We scored five axes 1–5, noted what the site does better than we did, and recorded what we deliberately did not copy. No vendor was contacted; nothing here is a capability certification.

Almost nobody lets you touch the product

Eleven of the twenty put their most convincing artifact — a live scene — behind a demo request or a login. The four that did not (Vectary, ShapeDiver, PlayCanvas, Matterport) were the four we understood fastest. Our entire demo gallery is unauthenticated for this reason.

Pricing transparency splits cleanly by buyer

SMB-facing products publish numbers; enterprise-facing products publish forms. That is a rational response to deal complexity, but it means an engineer evaluating options cannot build a shortlist without eight sales calls. We publish bands and a calculator, and say plainly where the number stops being reliable.

The engines are more honest than the platforms

PlayCanvas, Babylon and Cesium publish payload sizes, frame budgets and hard limits. Commerce platforms almost never do — and payload is exactly what determines whether a 3D product page survives its first quarter. We adopted the engine convention: every scene ships with its budget.

Rules are the real product, and the market knows it

Tacton, Combeenation and Roomle all centre configuration logic rather than rendering. The visual layer is a commodity now — three.js and a competent developer will get you 90% of the pixels. What does not commoditise is encoding what applications engineering knows about what can actually be built.

A contract seating range with nine option groups was sold through a 40-page swatch PDF. Specifiers emailed to ask whether combinations existed; roughly one order in six arrived with a combination the factory could not build, and each one cost a week of renegotiation.

Every scene we ship has a published triangle, draw-call and byte budget, tested on a four-year-old mid-range Android — not a workstation.

Open formats, no lock-in

glTF in, glTF out. Your assets leave with you, and the conversion pipeline is documented well enough to run without us.

Commerce is the point

A configurator that does not emit a priced, manufacturable, validated SKU is a toy. Rules engine first, shaders second.

Your point cloud is not a deliverable

A 2.8 billion point E57 registration is an archive, not a product. Everything useful happens in classification, decimation and publishing — and that is the work most scanning quotes leave out.
