LOD & decimation lab

Watch 94% of the triangles leave without taking the silhouette with them.

What this is

Slide the decimation ratio and see triangle count, estimated payload and silhouette error move together. The wireframe overlay shows where the budget actually went.

Decimation is the single highest-leverage step in a web 3D pipeline and the one most often done by eye. This lab makes the trade-off numeric: at each ratio you see triangles, estimated Draco payload, and a silhouette error figure. Below about 8% of original density the shape starts lying to you — the demo makes the exact point where that happens visible.

Things worth trying

  • Take the ratio to 6% and toggle wireframe — the silhouette holds, the interior does not
  • Compare a smooth organic shape against a mechanical one at the same ratio
  • Watch the payload estimate: halving triangles does not halve bytes

Bring us the product you were told could not be configured.

Tell us the option count, the CAD you already have and the frame budget you need to hit. An engineer reads it and replies with a straight answer — including when the answer is that good photography would serve you better.

We reply to every enquiry within one business day, in your timezone — with a frame budget, not a brochure.
